Sherevport, Louisiana

While stationed at Camp Polk, Jerome took several passes to nearby Shreveport, LA, which he discusses in his letters from September 3rd and September 20th. "Pass" is a term used in the military to refer to permission to leave base for a prescribed amount of time, usually for leisure. While today it is generally used in reference to the time allowed, ie "I have a pass this Saturday", during World War II soldiers had to carry physical passes to prove to the Military Police and superior officers that they were allowed to be off base.

This pass, while issues to Epstein after the war at Camp Carson, CO is similar to the one he would have recieved to Shreveport. As a Class B pass, it allows him to leave post at specified hours on an ongoing basis. His pass at Shreveport would have specified specific dates and times for depature and return.
