A recipe and method for waterproofing cloth by mixing melted wax with turpentine.

To one ounce of white [w]ax (melted) add one quart of spirits of turpentine [w]hen thoroughly mixed and cold, then dip in the cloth into the liquid and hang it up to drain till it is thoroughly dry. By the above cheap and easy method, muslin as well as the strongest cloths will be render'd quite impenetrable to the heaviest rains and that without the ingredients and either filling up the pores of the cloth or injuring the texture or damaging at all the most brilliant colours
